User Experience atau UX Topik 10 Prototyping

Prototyping is the act/tindakan or the art creating, mimicking/meniru atau testing all or part of the functionality of an application or website with users. the methods can be created in analog state ( whiteboards/pencil and paper) and digital state (ppt/keynote, visio, axure,html, etc...). Prototyping menggunakan iterative process karena prototypes are generally created to identify issues with/to validate-the ux.

Notes :

  • ketika mendapatkan feedback, kita bisa modifikasi prototype
  • a successfull (enough) prototype can keep a project moving forward into other phases.
Factors yang mempengaruhi hasil dari digital prototyping :
  1. kepada siapa yang dituju, kenapa?
  2. apa jenis sumber dayanya, skill, tools yang tersedia?
  3. Timelinenya seperti apa? (batas waktu)
prototyping very effective when using a representative sampling of a system. You don't have to create a simulation of the entire system or all system, you only need to simulate key parts and or interactions. The method selected will largely depend upon the time and materials available to you, as well as your target audience and their sophistication level.

Paper prototyping : use of paper as a means to convey an idea or concept as well as system or web to users. the process :
  • sketch the portion of the functionality you want to test.
  • present functionality to the user (s)
  • Document the feedback.
  • then move on to the next user, or make updates and start over.
paper prototyping : tools needed are pencil, pen, paper, scissors, etc...

Digital state : using digital tools that allow you to create interactive protoypes and engage your test users in a more realistic environment.

HTML vs WYSIWYG Editors.
  • HTML is the digital equivalent of a paper prototype. It is free and easy.
  • 2 Ways to build an HTML prototype :
    • Hand-coding the HTML
    • Using a WYSIWYG Editor : Adobe Dreamweaver, Axure, MS Visio studio.
    • More web-based tools : Handcraft, pencil, invision, Balsamiq, ixEdit, etc...
    • Examples below use WYSIWYG HTML Editor.
